Getting Connected                        Technological Innovation?                        Video Book Reviews

Get Connected is a short documentary (25 mins) about how one administrator, three teachers and three students see technology in the education system as of 2011. To the right you have the shorter version (6 mins) while the introduction page you have the full video.

This video was an option I took as opposed to writing a final paper. It took at least 40 hours to finish. I had to think, plan, storyboard, lay out interview subjects, interview, compile, edit, add cutaways, add music and incorporate many other little pieces  along the way. However those many hours were enjoyable, much more so than writing a paper that may have only taken me a few hours. I really got a hold of wanting to do this and make something that was insightful and interesting about the educational system. We are reading so many books about where technology can go and where it has been, but it was interesting to get real feedback on where it is right now.

After my other videos I wanted this video to have as little of me as possible in it, but still be able to tell a story. This became very difficult to do as the video went in a few different directions. The hardest part about doing a documentary is having to throw your plan out the window when your interview subjects say something great, or take the question a different way. I had a guess on what everyone would say and I thought I knew where everything was going. I left around one and a half hours of footage on the cutting room floor, and put in and pulled out a variety of material before settling on what I thought would be a good flowing storyline. I may have been wrong about what I thought everyone would say and the direction the video would take, but it couldn't have turned out any better.
